Manual Handling Training
Our manual handling eLearning course takes a close look at the ways to approach manual handling that will protect your spine and posture, the factors to consider wherever manual handling can't be avoided, and how to carry out simple manual handling tasks in a safe and compliant way.
The course is split into four modules with the final module comprising a chance for learners to test their manual handling knowledge and retention rates.
The manual handling course also includes an introduction to proper risk assessment techniques for manual handling activities and explains the legal responsibilities of employers to protect their employees from the risks associated with manual handling.
Our manual handling eLearning course is available off-the-shelf for ease of use; we can also work with your subject experts to tailor the approach and information to suit your organisation's requirements. Using the Adapt Authoring Tool you can even modify our courses yourself.Read More

What is manual handling?
Manual handling refers to any activity that involves lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing or pulling items. As you can imagine, many people take part in some form of manual handling in their day-to-day jobs, and some even spend their entire day participating in some form of manual handling activity.
Perhaps it's unsurprising that manual handling involves the risk of injury, for example, when items are too heavy, or are required to be carried for long distances. Any twisting, bending, or stretching activity can damage muscles and joints (these are known as musculoskeletal disorders or MSDs), and it is estimated that MSDs account for more than a third of all work related sick leave. With proper manual handling training and operations, however, this figure can be reduced and the risk of injury controlled.
What does manual handling training involve?
The term manual handling covers a wide variety of work-related activities such as lifting, pushing, pulling, lowering, and carrying or moving objects. Without proper manual handling training, any of these actions could put workers at the risk of injury, and this could have serious implications for employers. Manual handling training is all about protecting workers from harm, and will involve introducing employees to the risks involved in handling heavy objects at work and how to reduce these. Proper training will also cover early-reporting processes for any suspected injuries obtained whilst undertaking manual handling at work.
How often should manual handling training be refreshed?
The frequency that manual handling training should be repeated is not stipulated as such by law, although here at DeltaNet International we believe in the value of refreshment and reinforcement over and above straightforward repetition. Known as 'blended learning', a combination of learning methods can be put to use to boost employee retention and engagement levels, i.e. interactive and immersive eLearning (combined with more traditional eLearning courses), microlearning (these are short, very content-rich courses) , poster campaigns, email tips, and surveys. The good news is, our LMS system, Astute, makes all these things possible.
